eSafety Youth Council 

In December 2021, the Australian Government announced the creation of an eSafety Youth Council. 

The purpose of the Council is to provide a direct voice to Government about the challenges that young people face online and what can be done to make online experiences safer. The Online Safety Youth Advisory Council will comprise of young people aged between 13 and 24 years old, from across Australia and from a diverse range of backgrounds. The Council will be established and coordinated by the eSafety Commissioner (eSafety).

Who should apply? 

All young people between the ages of 13-24 are welcome to apply. The group will be made up of young people from all over Australia and from a diverse set of backgrounds, ages, genders and cultures. If you require assistance to complete your application, please contact youth@esafety.gov.au

What is required in the role? 

  • A willingness to contribute and participate actively to the activities and discussions of the eSafety Youth Council.
  • A commitment to attend four meetings during the year - three online and one in-person meeting (health advice permitting).
  • Access to a computer and reliable internet for online meetings. If you are in a rural or remote area without reliable internet, provision can be made by meeting via phone.
  • For young people under the age of 18, parent/carer consent is needed to apply for the Council.
  • For young people 18 and over, a Working with Children Check is needed (relevant to your state/territory).
  • A letter of endorsement from a teacher, employer or community leader who can comment on why you would be suited to the Youth Council. The person endorsing your application should be aged 18 years or over.

You do not need any experience of working in a Youth Council!
